Program Description



"Work is any legal activity that provides value to others."

Senior students at Fletcher's can earn up to four (4) credits in the Co-op program. These credits are related to two (2) different in-school courses.

During the program students will meet or exceed 440 hours of combined in-school (pre-placement & integration classes) and placement (at work) learning.

It is highly recommended that students successfully complete Career Studies ( grade 10) prior to entering the program.

Program Highlights:



Pre-placement: The first three (3) weeks of the semester focusing on work readiness ( resume, safety etc.). Students who miss the pre-placement start-up training will be asked to complete on-line material from the following sites:

  • Integration: Learning in-school approximately one day every other week. Students receive a schedule of these days and the assignments required.
  • Placement: Students gain approximately 15 weeks of workplace experience
  • The Personalized Placement Learning Plan (PPLP): Each student will connect their learning ( tasks, expectations etc.) at placement to their credits.
  • The Portfolio: As a summative, students will prepare a personal career portfolio that demonstrates their skills, achievements and abilities. The portfolio is presented to the Co-op supervisor towards the end of the program.
  • The Job Fair: Each student will prepare a display and a brochure to represent the learning at their placement.
  • The Independent Learning Project (ILP): Part of the summative,each student will also have an opportunity to prepare and present a brief report that focuses on a specific aspect of the learning related to their credits at placement.
  • The Placement Assignment: Students are expected to prepare a brief report on their organization and interview candidates at placement.
