Apprenticeships
Apprentice in one of the many trades in Ontario may be of interest to you.
You can learn a great deal about the trades at the www.peelschools.org OYAP. You will learn more about involvement in OYAP – the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. If you enter an apprenticeable trade during Co-op and meet the following criteria, you may be eligible to get registered in the trade and start to meet the standards and gain the hours required for certification.
Requirements:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Have completed 16 credits prior to the program
- Be enrolled as a full-time student during the program and working to complete the OSSD requirements
- Be interested and motivated in pursuing the trade as a future career pathway
The regulated trades in Ontario are divided into four (4) sectors, namely;
- Construction Sector
- Industrial Sector
- Motive Power Sector
- Service Sector
Your Co-op teacher, Guidance Counselor or Career Studies teacher can provide you with even more details about getting registered in the trades.
