OSSLT Preparations (Grade 10 Literacy Test)
Are You Writing the Literacy Test for the First Time?
Here’s What You Should Know:
- The OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test) is on April 8, 2010.
- Only students writing the test will attend school on April 8
- Students will write the test in their homeroom classes
- You will be writing a practice test on April 6 and April 7, 2010
- You will continue to practice within your classes semester one and semester two
- Look forward to Timing and Test-taking Skills Week, March 22-26, 2010
- All students are welcome to join Counting On You: Literacy Test Preparation, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school. See Mr. Sell or Mrs. Filliter for more details.
- There will be a three day Literacy Test Preparation camp called Camp I Can taking place over March Break (March 15, 16 and 17). See Mrs. Filliter for more details.
- There are optional after-school Literacy Test Preparation sessions open to all students. Listen to announcements for details.
Are You Writing the Literacy Test for the Second Time?
Here’s What You Should Know:
- Workshops for Grade 11s attempting the test for a second time will be taking place in Feburary and March, 2010
- If you are not sure if you are rewriting the test, please check with your counselor or Mrs. Filliter in the English Pod
- Grade 11s will write the test with other Grade 11s in assigned classrooms. You will receive a letter in advance of the test that will tell you where to go on the day of the test.

Why do I have to write the OSSLT?
To prove that you have acquired the literacy skills (reading and writing) that you are expected to have acquired by the end of Grade 9.

Mandatory OSSLT Preparation Dates Semester One
Based on diagnostic testing, we have determined that there are many students who would benefit from additional instruction and practice to prepare for the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test in April of 2010. These students received a note indicating their group and the dates of their mandatory sessions. These are the dates of those sessions:
